WIC IBCLC

Pay Scale:
($55,000 – $75,000)

Responsibilities:

Full time, non-exempt position works under the supervision of the Breastfeeding Coordinator providing direct lactation services and service delivery of WIC Nutrition and Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Programs. The IBCLC participates in the development, implementation and provision of breastfeeding education, promotion and support according to WIC Nutrition Services and WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counseling (BPC) Program guidelines. The primary focus of the IBCLC is to promote breastfeeding and increase breastfeeding initiation, exclusivity, and duration rates.  The IBCLC provide quality nutrition service delivery of the WIC Supplemental Nutrition Program, serves as a resource to staff, and provides clients with referrals for other health, community, and social services. 

Qualifications and competencies required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor's (or higher) degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in any health or nutrition-related field preferred OR relative work experience and specialized training in lactation management, such as Certified Lactation Counselor or Certified Lactation Educator
  • Possess an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) credential
  • Complete WNA Competent Professional Authority certified by State WIC
  • Effective verbal and written communication of nutrition, breastfeeding, and program information to clients.  Bilingual preferred
  • Effectively comprehending spoken communication

  • Engaging and participating in constructive and productive group interaction
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and collaboration to reach program goals

  • Basic office skills utilizing technology including, phone, hardware, and software applications
  • Customer-oriented service providing respectful, empathetic, compassionate engagement when interacting with WIC participants and the WIC team
  • Valid California Driver License and DMV printout
  • Working vehicle and evidence of current automobile insurance

Physical Requirements:

The person in this position needs to:

  • remain in a stationary position more than 50% of the time;
  • constantly operate a computer and other office technology including mouse, keyboard, phone, headset, etc.;
  • routinely operate office equipment and machinery, including calculator, copy machine, fax, mail meter, weight and measurement scales, etc.;
  • constantly detect and observe computer monitor at close range;
  • constantly communicate information and concepts so others will understand to exchange accurate information with participants and staff in-person, on-phone, and virtually;
  • constantly discern and assess information and concepts shared by others to exchange accurate information with participants and staff in-person, on-phone, and virtually;
  • routinely input and record accurate documentation into the WICWISE and PCDB systems;
  • routinely utilize computer programs including Microsoft Office Suite, telecommunication software, and other operational software programs;
  • constantly position self to maintain files in file cabinets and access office machinery, operational resources, and supplies to process clients at work station;
  • occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, and supplies, etc.;
  • occasionally move about inside the office to assist client with latch and infant positioning; weight scale and measurement checks
  • occasionally move up to 20 pounds and transport up to 50 pounds (on wheels with the aid of transport apparatus);
  • occasionally work in outdoor weather conditions;
  • occasionally travel to other work locations and/or work-related events, trainings, and/or meetings
