(WIC –Stockton Sites)
Pay Scale:
($42,500 – $64,000)

Responsibilities:

Full time, non-exempt position works under the direction of the WIC Services Supervisor to provide direct clinical services of WIC Supplemental Nutrition Program services at Stockton sites.  The Nutrition Assistant II works to provide quality nutrition and breastfeeding promotion and service delivery of the WIC Supplemental Nutrition Program.  The primary focus of the Nutrition Assistant II is to assist in reducing the risks associated with nutrition deficiencies within the WIC population through the provision of nutrition and breastfeeding education, individual counseling, and client assistance in setting nutrition-related goals.  The Nutrition Assistant II is certified by the State WIC Branch as a “Competent Professional Authority” (WNA).  The Nutrition Assistant II serves as a resource of referrals for other health, community, and social services and contributes to the achievement of caseload goals. 

Qualifications and competencies required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Competent Professional Authority certified by State WIC
  • Minimum 1 year as a Nutrition Assistant I or equivalent
  • Effective verbal and written communication of nutrition, breastfeeding, and program information to clients.  Bilingual preferred
  • Effectively comprehending spoken communication
  • Engaging effectively in dialogue
  • Communicating effectively through writing and documentation
  • Engaging and participating in constructive and productive group interaction
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and collaboration to reach program goals
  • Adaptable and responsive to time-sensitive tasks, clinic flow, changes in program procedure, and modifying behavior as the situation requires
  • Valuing diversity and appreciating the benefits of varied backgrounds and cultures in the workplace
  • Handling stress maintaining emotional stability and self-control under pressure, challenge, or adversity
  • Self-management demonstrating personal organization, self-discipline, and dependability
  • Demonstrating professional integrity and ethics through honesty, personal accountability, and maintaining confidentiality of WIC participant information
  • Basic office skills utilizing technology including, phone, hardware, and software applications
  • Customer-oriented service providing respectful, empathetic, compassionate engagement when interacting with WIC participants and the WIC team
  • Valid California Driver License and DMV printout
  • Working vehicle and evidence of current automobile insurance

Physical Requirements:

The person in this position needs to:

  • remain in a stationary position more than 50% of the time;
  • constantly operate a computer and other office technology including mouse, keyboard, phone, headset, etc.;
  • routinely operate office equipment and machinery, including calculator, copy machine, fax, mail meter, weight and measurement scales, etc.;
  • constantly detect and observe computer monitor at close range;
  • constantly communicate information and concepts so others will understand to exchange accurate information with participants and staff in-person, on-phone, and virtually;
  • constantly discern and assess information and concepts shared by others to exchange accurate information with participants and staff in-person, on-phone, and virtually;
  • routinely input and record accurate documentation into the WICWISE system;
  • routinely utilize computer programs including Microsoft Office Suite, telecommunication software, and other operational software programs;
  • constantly position self to maintain files in file cabinets and access office machinery, operational resources, and supplies to process clients at work station;
  • occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, and supplies, etc.;
  • occasionally move up to 20 pounds and transport up to 50 pounds (on wheels with the aid of transport apparatus);
  • occasionally work in outdoor weather conditions;
  • occasionally travel to other work locations and/or work-related events, trainings, and/or meetings
